Last day in Cusco.

We had one day left in Cusco, and our host Ronnie suggested we should go on a bicycle tour to see another Inca site called Moray. We met with Ronnie’s pal Alex, who would be our guide for the day, and were issued with cycles. The first thing I did, of course, was check which way round the brakes were, and was dismayed that they were the wrong way for me! I had visions of further injury, but after the bus ride out of town up into the hills I took a look at the cables, and swapped them over. I felt much happier.

The first part of the ride was really nice, through the high country on small farm tracks, past locals with pigs, sheep, chickens and donkeys. The mountain scenery was fantastic.

Moray was an unusual place, and apparently had been the Inca equivalent of an agricultural university, where crop growth at different levels was studied. It was a huge deep hole in the ground, with many terraces.

After leaving Moray the riding became tougher, as we started our descent back to the valley on steeper, rocky paths. It was great fun, and very exhilarating, and for a couple of hours we rode down through wonderful mountain scenery, stopping off to view a vast salt pans area on the way.

What an awesome day! I have really enjoyed Cusco, and my time in Peru. Thanks again to Ronnie and Willy for their wonderful hosting here.
