We had no real plans for the journey across I-70 into Colorado, but Vanessa did some quick research online and found that several of the ski resorts had lifts open for the last days of the summer season.
We made a quick detour into Beaver Creek, a very upmarket resort, where we took the chairlift up as high as we could. The autumn (“fall” here in the US) were beautiful.
The next day, at Vail, we bought lift passes to take our bikes up the mountains to ride some of the steep, exhilarating trails down. Rain in the afternoon added to the excitement. I think I might have found a new hobby! I loved the steep, winding downhill trails – and the warm dry gondola to whisk you back up to the summit again!
