Nous sommes habitants

With the little cabin clad, cleaned and tidied, we decided it was time to spend our first night at our new property. We packed some food in the cool box, and took sleeping mats and sleeping bags with us on Saturday morning.

We did a bit of work during the day, but knocked off early to enjoy the afternoon and evening.

Dinner was a simple meal cooked on the BBQ in the garage HQ, along with a nice bottle of French wine, of course.

We sat on the balcony with our wine to watch the sun set, and spent a comfortable night on the floor the cabin.

Next job is to build a couple of beds in there which will also double as a sofa. Vanessa also wants a little desk, so she can work in there too - we have internet access via mobile phone connection.

The next morning we had a wander around the village, and chatted to a few locals, jokingly declaring "Maintenant nous sommes habitants" (Now we live here).

Our neighbour directly across the road, who is working on his own renovation project, invited us over for midday drinks, and we spent a couple of hours chatting in the sun.

Very little work got done by anyone that Sunday afternoon.

It really is a nice place to be. When we go up there to work we often stay longer in the evening to have a glass of wine and enjoy the view. It is soooo quiet and peaceful. Most of the time the only noise is the birds and the occasional tolling of a church bell. Very little traffic, as we’re not really on a route to anywhere. More tractors than cars most days.

Ian & Vanessa, I’m so happy for both of you. The property looks wonderful. Hopefully when the world gets back to more normalcy, I’d love to come & visit. I wish you all the best with your new direction in life.
