June travels and adventures

“Time flies when you’re having fun.”

I guess Vanessa and I are having lots of fun here in Austin, as June just seems to have breezed by. We are fast approaching the two month mark on our US adventures already.

As I said last month, I plan is to only write one travel update blog post per month – a photographic diary with just a little explanatory text.

Here are a few of our highlights from June:

Lake Travis

We felt our travels really began when we headed westward out of Austin to visit the very scenic Lake Travis. We spent a couple of days on the north shore swimming and relaxing at Arkansas Bend Park before heading back along the south shore, stopping off at Krausse Springs and Grelle Recreation Area, where we hung out with another long-time RVer. Creighton had just been filmed by the Travel Channel for a new TV series “Big Time RV”.

Austin

At the Hostelling International hostel in town my talk went very well, and we spent the evening in the park across the road with fellow Fleetwood Pace Arrow owners and long-term RVers Jay and Elle.

San Antonio

In San Antonio for a long weekend we went to the “Warped” Music Tour show, thanks to an invite from friends Nate and Taylor. We visited The Alamo, and walked, ate and cycled along the beautiful Riverwalk.

Wimberley

We were invited to stay out in the country by Dillon and his mum Tracy, and achieved on of my goals for our time in Austin by jumping into the amazingly clear waters of Jacob’s Well.

Broken down

Back in Austin things took a bit of a downward turn when the RV overheated and lost all the coolant. We spent two nights in a supermarket carpark before being towed into a repair shop where we had to stay for four days while the radiator was removed, a new one found and finally fitted.

McKinney Falls State Park

Our last stop for June is at the beautiful McKinney Falls State Park, just south of Austin. Time for some cycling, swimming and blog-writing.

Coming up next month…

I have a second talk to give in Austin in July. We then fly across to LA for friends Evan and Teresa’s wedding. We hope to catch up with Creighton there too before we fly down to Mexico for a week or so. We return to Austin via Dallas at the end of the month, hopefully with a fresh three month visa for onward US travels. More pix in the next update…
