Island update

We’ve settled back into life on the island after the excitement of a trip up to California. It was nice to enjoy some big city living for a while, but it was also very nice to return home.

There has been a bit of an exciting change here. Vanessa, who came to visit from the UK, intending to stay for just a couple of weeks, has decided to stay for much longer. She has handed in her notice at work, and given up the room she was renting in London, and is now a full-time island dweller. I’m very happy to have her along to share the adventure.

There are also six new island occupants. The first chicken I bought more than a year ago, Gina, had been sitting on eggs for a few weeks, and last week we discovered that they were hatching. Within a day we had six new chicks. They are now out and about on the island each day with mum, and are all doing well. They grow so quickly.

The chickens are always good for general island entertainment too:

And we’ve been doing a bit of baking:

It’s nice to be home again.
